The general consensus for the roofing industry is to replace your roof in the Fall (September, October, November). While the Fall season is certainly an acceptable option, we recommend the Spring (April, May, June) as the most ideal time to replace your roof. The primary reason for that is heat from the Sun! Warmer temperatures are an absolute necessity for roofing shingles to seal together, it's these seals that gives your roof it's wind resistance. A Springtime roof install gives you the entire Summer for your roof to achieve a full seal, prior to the colder weather that's due in the Fall and Winter. If timed properly in the Spring, your roofing project can coincide perfectly with all of your yearly landscape activities. So, shortly after your roof is installed, you can immediately move on to your seeding, mulching and planting needs, without the concern of your roofing project damaging your landscape work.
While temperatures is the factor here, location can play a major role, as well.
If your home is located in the city, and doesn't get the same impact of Winter weather, it's quite plausible to perform roofing projects year round, but, rural communities don't have this luxury. If your house is located on farmland, with no other structures within 50 yards of any direction, a less than 100% seal could result in significant shingle blow-outs through the Winter. For homes that fall under this example, we generally advise to have your roof installed prior to October 1st. If that timeline is not an option, we then advise to wait until after April 1st of the following year.
We hope this information helps, as you weigh your options, moving forward.
